    Somewhat disjointed.
When the ending montage started in, I was a little confused. All I could think was, that's it it?! But as I watched the montage, I realized that the song and the montage told the rest of the story & filled in the gaps. Takaki & Akari grew apart with time but while Akari moved on with her life, Takaki never did. It's really sad watching it and the realization that Takaki comes to that leds to ...

  • Beautifully Heartbreakingly Warm
I really wanted to leave a review for this, even though it premiered 10 years ago. It was and is one of the most emotional anime movies I have seen, and it's visuals were stunning. Of course it has a gazillion reviews, so I'm sure you already knew that. Anyways, this movie got me to further research Makoto Shinkai, and now I've seen every single work of art that he has published.

  • This Movie is Not suited for Childre!
if you haven't experience life you will definitely not like/understand the meaning of this movie, with that said.

In life you fall in love, get your heart broken and make may mistakes. As time passes and life becomes well... real life you long for those carefree days you spent with that special someone. Wishing that beautiful feeling just one more time.

This movie hit all the right spots ...

  • Depressing possibly a waste of time but beautiful animation
The entire movie had a build up of this love he has for Akari and I guess you can say it's pretty much a lesser version of "Your Name" (unbelievably great movie I just saw in theaters) You might find this movie to be a waste of time if you are looking for a happy ending I see this as just depressing. He wasted his life pretty much on someone who gave up on their childhood love and at the end they ...

  • Very beautiful indeed
Well, this was a trip down emotional-wreck avenue. This is a very mature and, quite frankly, sad anime. Music's good, animation is absolutely astounding, and voice acting is great! But my goodness, it gets depressing. You know an anime is good when it makes you empathize with the characters, and 5 Centimeters per Second did that to me.

  • A deep, motivating story of waiting for true love.
    ***Spoiler*** Watch Before Reading...

Okay, so first episode, you have the 2 main protagonists. They're childhood friends but seemingly, because of the constant change of their parents' jobs, they move further and further away. They write to each other every now and then to stay connected. One winter, they choose to meet up and reminiscence about their past and to catch up on their current ...

  • Brought me to tears, and I don't react like that often
I'll start off by saying that this is an absolute masterpiece. Beautiful imagery, an unforgettable story, and the music couldn't have been any better.

The way this is presented, it gives you some level of hope for the protagonist up to the very last moment, then crushes your very heart and soul into dust. I was in tears.

I normally don't write reviews, but this is a piece of art I will ...

  • Disappointed in the ending.
I'm not a big tragedy fan, so it wasn't my cup of tea. I don't like it when people make stupid choices and are the victims of everything in life. When they can obviously do something different to change the way things are going and they choose to do nothing. Instead they just keep on existing in the turmoil around them.

  • A very well done OVA
A great look at the realities of life. Excellent animation with solid writing. I'm not going to gush over the emotion or the plot of this story. Most of the thoughtful reviews go into that. The slice of life lessons taught here really standout. What are they? Life sucks, and for most, dreams do not come true.

  • Great, but never watching again
beautiful animation and nice writing combine to hit you in the feels like a freight train. If you're not depressed at the end of it, you might not have a soul.
My personal policy is that if tears are shed, its never watched again. This makes the cut.
