This is the third and final part of my Manga Koshien 2011, the 20th National High School Manga Championship of Japan report. If you have not checked the part 1 and part 2, please do so first.

 

In the contest, the high school kids had to draw their own original manga with a given theme. Using existing popular characters from manga, anime and game was not allowed at all. On the other hand, they were allowed and encouraged to draw "graffiti" on the walls of their booth in their spare time. Graffiti is just graffiti, so they were able to draw anything they wanted, including anime and manga characters. That is one of the Manga Koshien's tradition. Please check the graffiti, you may find out what type of characters are popular among Japanese high school manga fans today. Amazing stuff. Wish I could draw. I guess there's no doubt about how popular Miku still is. Kinda surprised by some of the other characters that made it onto the walls.

I saw a wall of Pandora Hearts sketches! YES.
And Nyanko-sensei. I spotted a really fat Nyanko-sensei.
But dang, lots of amazing artists. I'm sure it took them all a lot of practice though.

Wow!! These are all amazing! And so cute!! I especially like the Victorique graffiti! <3 And they all are just amateurs?! I'm blown away by their talent!

did you really need to have so many Mikus? i get that she's a popular character but there must have been lots more of other characters. if you were picking and choosing which ones you wanted to post you could have had a bit more discretion and not letting personal taste play into it unless the person who took the photos just happened to like Miku in which case there was nothing there could be done about it.

my favorites are the big Rin saying 'ganbatte ne' and the 3rd picture before it, 'tasukeau kokoro'. it's the best.
the clothes are really good too. especially Mawaru and Mami <3
they are so talented. i wonder if they will work for japanese animation producers xDD
