FEATURE: Fanart Friday, Recap Episode Edition

You don't even get a new OP/ED for this

Fanart Friday returns, all rarin' to go for New Years! Last week, we got ready for Santa with a double-sized Christmas edition, but this week we're doing something a little different.

Viewers of anime series are occasionally "rewarded" with recap episodes, allowing them to catch up on all the highlights of the story so far. The only rub to this is that Fanart Friday doesn't have a story (as far as I know) unless you keep track of how many readers I traumatize each week with exceptionally WTF pieces of fanart. So let's get crackin' as I pick some of my favorite pieces from every Fanart Friday this year!

DISCLAIMER:  None of the art presented is the property of myself or Crunchyroll.  All characters and series are tm and © their respective creators and corporate owners.  All art is the creative property of their respective artists.  Any artists who wish to have their work removed from this article may contact me, and appropriate action will be immediately taken.

Fanart Friday's First Flight was admittedly a shaky start, but what better way to get the ball rolling than with ruthless robot-on-robot violence?

New and Improved Edition had a couple really cool ones, like Lauren Montgomery's Tuxedo Mask and Hellstinger6's take on Rock Howard, but this is the one that really stood out.

I think I'm gonna do more of the multi-week themes for Fanart Friday--Overseas Edition took a look at work from Japanese art community pixiv. It also gives me another excuse to post Kim Pine fanart, because seriously, <3

For the second part, Deviant Home Edition, we took a look through deviantArt. There was a lot of cool work, but this JLA piece really stood out!

Another two-week theme started in Scary Movie Edition, where we got ready for Halloween with fanart from horror movies and games!

The following week, our favorite characters got in costume for Trick or Treat Edition! I still think "Satan" would be a better costume for Hiruma.

The face that launched a thousand views! All-Pro Edition, featuring work from visual novel artist Sano Toshihide, Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik, Full Moon wo Sagashite's Arina Tanemura and more, was the first time Fanart Friday made CRN's Top News!

by klemay17

All About You Edition brought us fanart submitted by Crunchyroll's users, as well as a few pieces from CRN writers! It was hard choosing from the great pool of work that we got, and I'd love to do another one.

Manly Men Edition showed that even the hardest, most badass of guys (like Big Boss here) need alone time.

Villains were on parade in Black Friday Edition, like this classy Star Wars piece.

Depressing, but a really nice piece from The Dark Elf Trilogy for the Back to Basics Edition. ZAKNAFEIN NOOOOO :(

I had to throw something together really fast for MacGyver Edition, but we got a lot of excellent art from it anyways!

So right now in the News Feed, everybody's talking about the possibility of a BlazBlue anime. We've held out hope long enough for a Guilty Gear anime, so close enough, right? Six-Button Edition celebrated fighting games and all the great characters that come with them!

Last week's X-Mas Xtravaganza XTREME Edition X was not quite as mind-melting as its title would lead you to believe, but there were more than a few pieces that lived up to the name.

But out of all the columns, what is my #1 favorite piece of art, just to end the year? This one:

You're welcome.

Everybody, thank you so much for reading and supporting Fanart Friday! Have a safe and fun New Years! Next week, we start 2012 off with a trip through Crunchyroll's anime library!
