Fanart Friday returns, more than willing to show you its Pokey Mans. Last week, we satisfied a very specific portion of the anime and game fanbase by taking a look at girls with glasses, but this week we'll be tackling an almost too-broad theme: Pokémon! Obviously, there's no way we can cover every Pokémon character or title in one installment, so just assume that you'll be seeing one of these every now and then--the Internet will never, ever run out of Pokémon-related fanart.
DISCLAIMER: None of the art presented is the property of myself or Crunchyroll. All characters and series are tm and © their respective creators and corporate owners. All art is the creative property of their respective artists. Any artists who wish to have their work removed from this article may contact me, and appropriate action will be immediately taken.
And what better place to start than with these dorks? Honestly, I feel bad for Team Rocket--Jessie and James (and Meowth) are hapless idiots expected to perform miracles. Just imagine that you're that stupid and everybody expects you to perform flawlessly.
The Unova region gets represented by Elgyem, Reuniclus, and Munna! That reminds me, I really need to finish up Pokémon Black!
Gotta love the bouffant hair of the Black trainer. I was a little disappointed that the cast of Black was not 100% Black Dynamite Afro-American awesomeness.
Aw, Cubone, why so sad? You're one of the original 151! Everybody loves you! Probably not as much as people love Psyduck or Snorlax, but hey, we can't all be that popular.
Okay, I don't remember Subway Bosses Emmett and Ingo looking that bishie. C'mon, fangirls, they're working-class, blue-collar badasses who keep the underground railways safe--they need a little grit!
Oh, Ash. You think you're so cool, but you don't really do all that much... it's your friends (and Pokémon) who do all the work! Poor Brock...
Now Red, on the other hand... man, what a freakin' action hero! Why didn't we get an anime about this guy?
Awww, wook at the wittle Flareon! How CUUUUTE! Makes you just wanna pinch his cheeks and AAAAAGH AAAAAGH STOP DROP AND ROLL, STOP DROP AND ROOOOLL
Imagine PETA, in all their hilarious and misguided glory. Now imagine that PETA wanted to stop cruelty to animals by using trained animals to attack groups they were protesting. Now you have Team Plasma, led by N here. Yeah, I think I'd rather have the "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ads, thanks.
I remember playing the original Pokémon Blue and getting a Magikarp. I quickly shelved the useless fish in the "never again" pile, until a friend of mine completely curbstomped me with Gyarados. That changed my mind really fast.
So it's kinda funny... Pokémon professors are always gruff older men who act as advice dispensers. And then Professor Juniper and her "best friend" Fennel come along, and suddenly, I'm interested in everything they have to say. I'm pathetic, I know.
Talking in Street Fighter terms, Mewtwo is basically Akuma. He's terrifying when the CPU plays him, but against a human opponent, he's a strong--but not invincible--opponent who can be beaten if you play smart.
This is a beautiful piece of art, but I would pay good money to see some frat boy ask for a "sick tribal tat" on his bicep (bro), only for the artist to give him this Pachirisu. That would be solid gold.
I had a lingering feeling that I'd get eviscerated in the comments if I didn't include Mudkip. FINE, THERE'S SOME MUDKIPS. I KNO U LIEK DEM. And a Marshtomp too, because they're cooler.
So you have Mewtwo, a dark and fearsome psychic terror capable of obliterating just about anything that looks at it funny... and for the opposite side of the coin, you have the adorable, gentle, but no less astonishingly powerful Mew. Sounds about right to me!
Huh, I never figured Budew for the romantic type! Or maybe Lucario's debating whether or not to eat a flower in front of a Grass-type.
Please tell me that I'll get another chance to knock Team Plasma's head off in Black and White 2. Please, please please. All I want for Christmas is the chance to KO more hippies in a Pokémon game.
Okay, unless they have an army of freaky, grinning Voltorbs. Then I'm just not gonna bother.
That's it for this week, everybody--drop by next week as we check out fanart from a world of milquetoast male leads and large casts of female characters who hit all character-types on the checklist! That's right, we're focusing on harem anime of all stripes, from romantic comedies like Love Hina to overly-serious action-adventures like Neo Angelique!
Which Pokémon game is your favorite? Were there any favorite characters or Pokémon I missed (that I'll be sure to include the next time we do this theme)? Let us know in the comments!
Don't forget, your art is always welcome here on Fanart Friday--just PM me your work and I'll make sure to fit it into a future installment. As always, thanks for coming by--seeya next week!
