Fanart Friday returns, and no, I am not going to watch Magic Mike. Ever. Last week, we celebrated the release of The Dark Knight Rises with fanart of DC Comics' finest, but this week is a follow-up to the sexy ladies of June's Brick House Edition! That's right, everybody who demanded it--get ready for fanart of the hottest (fictional) men in anime, games, and more!
DISCLAIMER: None of the art presented is the property of myself or Crunchyroll. All characters and series are tm and © their respective creators and corporate owners. All art is the creative property of their respective artists. Any artists who wish to have their work removed from this article may contact me, and appropriate action will be immediately taken. And for real, if you're gonna complain that I'm showing fanart of sexy dudes, maybe you should also complain when I show fanart of sexy ladies.
There's a lot of people who hate Final Fantasy XII, but everybody agrees that Balthier is awesome! Who doesn't love a suave, British Han Solo-esque air pirate?
Ever notice how in vampire romance titles, there are two guys competing for the leading lady's heart? Vampire Knight's Kaname is the more level-headed of the two--can you really trust a guy named Zero Kiryu? That's like renaming yourself Ace McSexGod or something, it's too much.
Introverted, horror-movie-loving Sunako was easily the best part of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge/The Wallflower, but I don't think she taught her four handsome roommates that there was more to life than just being really, really, really ridiculously good-looking.
There's kind of a formula for "girl gets magically transported to another world" anime, and at least one part of that formula involves "meet stern, businesslike and obviously super-attractive guy with glasses and a ponytail." Harukanaru Toki no Naka de is no different.
Kyouya has shown up on Fanart Friday more than a few times, but we rarely ever see the actual president of the Ouran High School Host Club, Tamaki!
Don't be put off by Saint Seiya's brutal combat and hot-blooded shounen spirit! Pretty much the entire cast is made up of total bishies like Dragon Shiryu here, and the same goes for his counterpart in Saint Seiya Omega!
Exact order of my first thoughts while watching Gundam 00: "Wow, Tieria is hot. Got that whole Velma Dinkley look goin' on... wait, Tieria is a guy?!"
Tiger & Bunny is practically a reverse-harem series--all it's missing is a wide-eyed, indecisive female lead!
I don't remember much of Kyo Kara Maoh! other than a constant barrage of hilarious slash-bait innuendo. So, y'know, it's basically the same jokes I'd make with a gleefully terrifying fangirl spin on them.
If there's anything I've learned from anime, it's that chicks dig closeted psychopaths. Black Butler's Sebastian is cool, calm, collected, and will murder you with silverware if need be.
Really, you could fit most CLAMP leads in this week's Fanart Friday--it's like no ugly men exist in the CLAMP multiverse. Tsubasa's bickering couple battle-buddies Fai and Kurogane are two of my favorites, though, and I was not at all surprised at how much slashy artwork I had to wade through.
You can't help but feel bad for Kenshin. He's not okay with having killed hundreds of people for his country, and he's spent every waking moment after the war trying to atone for it. Surprisingly nuanced for the lead of a high-energy shounen martial arts series!
And here's another kickass anime butler... sort of! Blood+'s Hagi won't murder you with silverware, but he's more than happy to bash chiropterans over the head with a cello case, and then wait on Saya hand and foot afterward if need be.
Sometimes, the perfect man comes in the most unexpected package. Golden Boy's Kintaro Oe is nice, helpful, eager to learn new things and has a freaking iron body chiseled from time at a kenpo dojo, being an assistant swimming instructor, and lots more. Just, uh... ignore his toilet-hugging thing.
Revolutionary Girl Utena follows a familiar shoujo pattern, then wildly deviates: girl meets bunch of hot guys. Girl must then best every one of them in single combat.
An important thing to remember about Skip Beat! is that Ren is an absolute badass and all-around awesome guy, and Sho is a little punk.
You can also lump Kaichou-wa Maid-Sama's Usui in the "awesome guy" group. Nice guys do finish first!
So, uh... yeah. I haven't read or watched Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness, but I know with a certainty that this is a dude from Yami no Matsuei. Um... who is he?
Sometimes, even half-Saiyan warriors need to get in touch with their feelings and find a shoulder to cry on. Just, y'know... don't expect a hug to go with that, 'cause Future Gohan only has one arm and all.
Fushigi Yugi's just full of bishounen, from boring "perfect guy" Tamahome to "super handsome and super rich" Hotohori. I kinda miss the jerky, money-grubbing Tamahome from the beginning of the series... at least he was an interesting character!
Now, I know Inuyasha's Sesshomaru has a ton of fans (mostly fangirls), but again, we're coming back to the whole "fangirls dig crazy people" thing. I'm sorry, I don't see what part of "yes, he tried to murder his brother in cold blood" is justified by "but he's so dreamy!"
Okay, ladies (and gents), show of hands: who got their first "character crush" on Tuxedo Mask? He's a classic, and put many down the path of bishie obsession fandom.
If you haven't read all of Fruits Basket by now, you're not going to--so yes, Tohru ends up with Kyo. It makes sense, honestly--Yuki was kinda boring, y'know? He's like a male Rei Ayanami.
True story: I discovered what "yaoi" meant while looking up Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction back in 1996. I'll leave all the stories of shock and terror for later, but it totally makes sense that the ladies would love the demonic half of Team Urameshi.
This artist knows where it's at--if you have long hair, you've gotta take care of it, otherwise it gets all raggedy. Sorry, guys, if you want godlike hair, you've gotta get used to using conditioner and stuff. I know, it's annoying. :(
See, Escaflowne's Allen Schezar knows what's up.
And that's all for this week, folks! I know I didn't get every single "hot guy" in anime, games, and movies, so sound off in the comments and let me know who I missed!
Like I say every week, your art is always welcome here! If you want to see your work appear in a future Fanart Friday, shoot me a PM with a link to your work and I'll make sure to include it in a future installment! Also be sure to drop by next week, when we focus on ANIMALS AND SIDEKICKS! If you have suggestions for next week, make sure you give the character's FULL NAME and the SERIES THEY'RE FROM--believe it or not, I haven't watched or read everything.
Thanks for checking out Fanart Friday, and we hope to see you next week!
