FEATURE: "Gunhed" Model Kits Attack Kotobukiya's Akihabara Store!

Variable armored combat vehicle from 1989 tokusatsu film by Toho & Sunrise

The fourth floor of Kotobukiya's Akihabara store now features its recently released 1/35 plastic model kit "Gunhed" in the glass-front showcase. "Gunhed" is a variable armored combat vehicle which was appeared in a 1989 Japanese tokusatsu film of the same name. It was designed by Shoji Kawamori who has been famous for his Valkyrie variable fighters for the Macross series.

The film was directed by Masato Harada (Kamikaze Taxi, Mōryō no Hako), and Koichi Kawakita, who was in charge of the special effects section in all of the Godzilla films in the 1990s, was the special effects director. It was the first Japanese sci-fi film featured realistic giant mechas and their battles. Unfortunately the film was a box office failure at the time, but many fans still love the mechas. That's why Kotobukiya brings it back after a time of 23 years.
