2012's Smile Precure, the ninth installment of the hit Pretty Cure magic girl franchise, was well received both by its primary kids audience and by the otaku secondary audience. It followed the efforts of the five Cure girls to protect the Märchenland fairy tale magic world from the Big Bad Wolf and other emissaries of Bad End Kingdom. For the finale, the Cures fought their Bad End doppelgangers.

 

As one might expect, there was a huge fan reaction to the evil magic girls in tight black outfits.
