Together with Naruto Shippuden, the most featured anime title at Studio Pierrot's booth in Tokyo International Anime Fair 2013 was their first magical girl series in the middle of the 80s, Magical Angel Creamy Mami. The 52-episodes TV series was aired from July of 1983 to June of 1984 on TV Tokyo and four OVAs were produced from 1984 to 1986. With Ashi Productions' Magical Princess Minky Momo (1982-1983), Creamy Mami is considered as one of the most successful "modern" magical girl anime series in the 80s. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, Pierrot exhibited many Mami-related goods produced in those days and sold brand-new exclusive merchandise at their booth.
"30 years have passed since Pierrot's first original animation series Magical Angel Creamy Mami made its first appearance on TV. Since her debut, our lavender-haired heroine has mesmerized generations of young Japanese girls as a classic anime girl's icon.
Creamy Mami's charm as an "it " girl has not waned over the past 30 years, if not growing stronger. Numbers of reruns, a variety of Creamy Mami products raging from clothing items to school supplies and smartphone accessories and frequent fan events speak for Creamy Mami's undying popularity. It is the strong and continuous fan base that has made Creamy Mami made what she is today.
We would like to make this 30th anniversary year an opportunity to thank the fans and everyone else who supported Creamy Mami in any way. Through special events and exclusive Creamy Mami products, we hope to celebrate the power of imagination and dream that made Creamy Mami so magical!!"
