Now that the anime adaptation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Weekly Shonen Jump manga, Toriko, is in full swing, reports have been confirmed as to where its streaming fate lies. In a partnership with Toei Animation, Funimation will be streaming the series beginning on Thursday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. PDT (Pacific Daylight Time). The anime premiered in One Piece crossover form on Japanese television (Fuji TV) on April 3.
Shimabukuro's manga (published in North America by Viz Media) is full of meaty, manly goodness, and it translates fairly well to the screen thanks to Toei Animation's solid production, and a cast—featuring Ryotaro Okiayu as the titular Gourmet Hunter—that captures the spirit of the characters nicely. Don't forget to dig that funky theme song ("GUTS GUTS!!") performed with gusto by Akira Kushida (Space Sheriff Gavan, Kinnikuman).
The TV series comes hot on the heels of the aforementioned crossover special with One Piece and part of a double-bill—Toriko 3D: Kaimaku Gourmet Adventure!!—that played in theaters alongside One Piece 3D: Mugiwara Chase.
Toriko will be available to stream both at Funimation's video portal and Hulu.
