Crunchyroll Announces First Japanese App for Simulcasts

iPhone and Android apps offer streaming on the go

In an effort to make streaming simulcasts that much easier—especially for users with access to smart phones—Crunchyroll has partnered with Marvelous Entertainment to launch streaming-specific applications. For starters, Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai - We, Without Wings - Under the Innocent Sky and Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi - A Bridge to the Starry Skies will be available to stream directly to Android and iPhone apps after their corresponding Japanese broadcasts.

These applications are but two of several scheduled for launch in Japan this year, and they've already been made available to users via the Japanese Android storefront as of Wednesday, April 13. They're slated to hit Apple's App Store, for use with iPads and iPhones, shortly.

The apps themselves are available free of charge, and come equipped with a promo video and complimentary first episode. Following that, users will be able to view the rest of the episodes after they air with a full season pass priced at 1500 yen.

Looks like this is just the start of simulcast viewing by way of smart phone in Japan, so we'll be sure to keep you posted as more applications are developed. For more information on the various ways you can dig into Crunchyroll's streaming shows right now, head here.
