The Japan Times reports on plans by Yoshimoto Kogyo, a talent agency and media company, to put on various performances with English subtitles in Kyoto at the Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu theater. Formerly known as the Gion Kaikan, the theater is home to other events such as the Gion Odori in November.
In order to attract a foreign audience, they plan to have regular subtitled shows starting in late July. However, since the performances are primarily comedy and being that comedy is very hard to subtitle, they are still working out the content of the shows and how they will be subtitled. Shows that contain content that crosses language barriers, such as magic, are also being considered.
