According to this week's Oricon book sales ranking, the limited edition of the latest entry in the Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series, The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya has taken the top spot in the bunko paperback category, selling 341,000 copies. This more than doubles the previous weekly sales record in the bunko paperback category of 167,000 copies held by Kanae Minato's Kokuhaku. Kadokawa had previously announced that the first printing would be 513,000 copies, meaning nearly 2/3rds of the copies were sold. The limited edition including The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 1 (pictured), Part 2 and a 64 page all color deluxe booklet was released on May 25th in Japan after a 4 year wait.
