The Takaoka station of Toyama Prefectural Police has sent a 59-year-old unemployed man to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of copyright infringement on June 13. The man carried 52 pirated CD-Rs of popular Japanese singers and groups for sale when he was arrested on the road in the fruit and vegetable market of Takaoka city on April 23.
The police has already seized 1,138 pirated CD-Rs and DVD-Rs from his car, and a CD/DVD duplicator from his house. The man had been selling the pirated discs, including the popular female idol group AKB48 and the anime series ONE PIECE, in the Kanto, Touhoku, and Hokuriku areas in Japan since 2009. The price were 1,000 yen (US$12.47) for a disc and 2,000 yen (US$24.94) for the three. The man had made his living by selling those pirated discs.
