Atsushi Ohkubo, Yana Toboso Illustrate Square Enix Tribute Albums

Soul Eater and Black Butler mangaka both tackle cover art

Whether you like your Square Enix musical interpretations chill or upbeat, two upcoming tribute albums have both bases covered. SQ Chips and Cafe SQ feature jacket art by Soul Eater's Atsushi Ohkubo and Black Butler's Yana Toboso, respectively.

Both SQ Chips and Cafe SQ are part of the SQ Music Series, featuring a variety of artists covering and remixing classic Square Enix tunes. SQ Chips takes the formula down the chiptune alley, and includes fresh retro-style interpretations of music from beloved games/series like Final Fantasy, Seiken Densetsu, Xenogears and Chrono Trigger

Cafe SQ is the more chilled-out and mellow flipside to SQ Chips, and also includes covers of popular music from Final Fantasy, the SaGa series and more. Commemorating the releases are covers designed by famous mangaka. Soul Eater's Atsushi Ohkubo takes on SQ Chips, while Black Butler's Yana Toboso handles Cafe SQ. You can check both out below.

There are also sample tunes available on the official websites for each album. SQ Chips is set for a July 9 release in Japan, with Cafe SQ scheduled for fall 2011.
