Last fall, New Weekly Manga History of Japan began publishing a series of famous Japanese history figures drawn by famous manga artists. Rurouni Kenshin's Watsuki Nobuhiro on Prince Yamato Takeru, Steins’ Gate's Sarachi Yomi on Abe no Seimei, Crying Freeman's Ikegami Ryouichi on Kuroda Yoshitaka and the like. In the new, 35th entry, Fullmetal Alchemist's Hiromu Arakawa tackles sumo wrestler Raiden Tameemon.
Born born Seki Tarokichi (January 1767 - February 11, 1825), 6.5 foot tall, 370 pound Raiden Tameemon won at least 28 of his 35 tournaments, earning him renown as one of the greatest sumo of all time.
The next entry in the series sees Crusher Joe's Hosono Fujihiko depict neo-Confucian Kumazawa Banzan.
