If you like mind-boggling music videos from Japan, then the PV for PONPONPON, the first single by fashionista, blogger, model, and 100% authentic Harajuku girl Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is a psychedelic must-see.
The insidiously catchy song itself, PONPONPON (Japanese for “Clap Clap Clap”), was produced by Yasutaka Nakata, the reigning king of the Japanese electro music scene, widely known for his work with capsule and idol unit Perfume. Meanwhile, the toy-and-candy strewn set that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu prances on was designed by Sebastian Masuda, owner of stalwart Harajuku boutique 6%DOKIDOKI.
PONPONPON is the first single from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s debut mini-album “Moshi Moshi Harajuku” (“Hello, Harajuku”), which will be released in Japan on August 17th. Here’s hoping she’s got more tunes and wacky videos of this caliber waiting for us in the future. Until then...PON PON WAY WAY WAY PON PON WAY PON WAY PON PON!
