Valve Announces "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive"

Shooter coming to consoles, PC and Mac in early 2012

Anyone here ever a Counter-Strike player? Even if the answer is no, chances are you know someone who is or has been, and Valve is looking to add more multiplayer mayhem to their roster with Global Offensive.

Counter-Strike is a tactical first-person shooter that has its origins in Valve's Half-Life, as it originated via a player modification of that engine and expanded exponentially from there.

Almost exactly twelve years since the original Counter-Strike beta, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive takes that mod mentality and applies it to a new game for release on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, PC and Mac. Global Offensive will maintain original Counter-Strike maps while integrating new modes, weapons, maps and online leaderboards.

Though details in the press release were scant, the shooter is currently scheduled for "early 2012." It will be playable at this year's PAX Prime, as well as Eurogamer Expo 2011.
