On September 1, Isumi station of Chiba Prefectural Police arrested a 31-year-old male office worker on suspicion of selling pirated anime DVDs at a cell phone auction site without the permission from the copyright holder of the series, ACCS (The Association of Copyright for Computer Software) reported yesterday .
According to the ACCS's report, the man ripped "Mobile Suit Z Gundam" (owned by SUNRISE) and "ONE PIECE: Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Cherry Blossom" (owned by Toei) from rental shop's official DVDs and sold the 14 pirated DVD-R discs to two men at a cell phone auction site for 4,780 yen (US$62.11) between December 2010 to March 2011. The police had already seized his PC from his house on May 13. The suspect admitted his guilt and said he did it for money. The police reported he started selling the pirated anime discs in January 2010 and
had earned 300,000 yen (US$3,900) since then.
