Beat Takeshi's "Outrage" Headed to US Theaters

Crime thriller gets limited release in theaters, on-demand

"Beat" Takeshi Kitano is one of Japan's most popular and recognized actors, having made his name not only with yakuza movies, but also irreverent comedies and playing the titular blind samurai in the 2003 revival of Zatoichi.  American audiences were introduced to him mainly through 2000's Brother, a dark crime comedy also starring Omar Epps and Claude Maki.

In Outrage, which released to plenty of love from critics, Kitano once again takes on the roles of writer, actor, and director in a somber mob story about a tough-as-nails old-school boss caught in the middle of gangland politics, in a world where a career, stability, money, and power now mean more than tradition and honor.

iTunes has recently shown off a trailer for the movie, giving a US release date for December 2nd, 2011.  Not many Japanese films have come out in the US lately, but this one is definitely worth checking out.  Do you have a favorite Kitano movie?  Sonatine is my favorite, but I've always been partial to his goofier stuff.
