It may seem kind of silly to base the concept of a Dead Island adaptation on the game's trailer, but hey, that trailer took home the Gold prize for Internet Film at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. And now it's been optioned for the big screen.
Ok, so it's not like the entire movie will be a retelling of the trailer, but the Lionsgate press release has the following to say on the matter:
"Like the trailer that will serve as its primary creative inspiration, the film DEAD ISLAND will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling … This is exactly the type of property we're looking to adapt at Lionsgate — it's sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre we know and love."
The trailer in question, in case you've never seen it:
The Dead Island film is currently in the early stages of development, with Sean Daniel (The Mummy, Tombstone) attached to produce through his Sean Daniel Company.
Dead Island was developed by Techland and is currently available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I'm playing it now and it's, um, pretty fun! Anyone else been digging into the game?
