As Rumiko Takashi stories are wont to do, "martial arts sex comedy" manga Ranma ½'s cast grew staggeringly larger over its 11 year run. But, for now, we'll just have to content ourselves with the live-action casting for the two core families.
Following yesterday's announcement that Yui Aragaki (Sh15uya) will play Akane and Kento Kaku (Paradise Kiss 2011) and Natsuna (Kei Kishimoto in the live-action Gantz) will play male/female Ranma, respectively, the rest of the Tendo/Saotome clans have been revealed.
Ranma's father Genma Saotome, cursed to turn into a panda on the martial arts pilgrimage that introduced Ranma's gender swapping affliction, will be played by Arata Furuta (20th Century Boys, Ping Pong, Air Doll).
The older sister of his none-too-pleased fiancée Akane Tendo, Kasumi will be played by Kyōko Hasegawa (Angel Bank: Dragon Zakura Gaiden, Dragon Zakura), with Shosuke Tanihara (Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Kuroki Eiyū Zekrom/Victini to Shiroki Eiyū Reshiram, The Sky Crawlers, Vexille - 2077 Isolation of Japan) as her love interest Tofu Ono. Katsuhisa Namase (Gokusen, Trick, Yatterman) plays father of the house, Soun Tendo. Middle sister Nabiki hasn't been mentioned.
Yoshihiro Izumi (live-action Rookie) will script the special, scheduled to air in December.
