Katsuhiro Otomo's seminal Akira manga debuted in December 1982, and to mark its third decade the Akira 30th Anniversary Project has begun taking pre-orders for a pair of incredible (and expensive) replica jackets, scheduled to ship in late January 2012.

Meanwhile, over at Gainax, their General Products merch division will begin taking pre-orders for Evangelion inspired UN NERV Work Wear series 2 flight jackets on October 31 for release in mid-January.
Khaki and black variants will be available for 34,650 yen.





Just about any other manga artist who either takes horror seriously, does the opposite and infused it with gags or both at the same time, inevitably looks back to the work of Kazuo Umezu (Drifting Classroom, Cat Eyed Boy, Orochi). Recently, the sprightly 75 year old horror manga legend modeled a parka based on his 1984 Big Comics Spirit seinen series I Shingo. Otooto22 will be begin selling the coat in November.
