Happy Birthday, Kamen Rider and Mazinger Z!

I swear, we are not making this up...

You think the party’s over, but it’s ready to begin! Although this has been a day that has seen the birthdays of no less than THREE superstar-level characters (Naruto Uzumaki, Gintoki, and Xanxus for those of you counting), incredible though it may seem, it appears we've still got a few more to announce: Mazinger Z and Kamen Rider No.2!

For those of you not in the know, the 1972-1974 Mazinger Z anime and manga essentially created what is known as Japan’s “Super Robot” genre whose influence be felt whenever giant robots, or their pilots, scream out their powers before pummeling the bad bots to pieces (Gurren Lagann, anyone?). For more information, be sure to consult the latest incarnation of the character, Mazinkaizer SKL.

And according to the lore writ by creator Go Nagai, Mazinger Z was first activated on 10/10. So let's give the old boy a big round of applause and look at some funny cakes made in his likeness...

Meanwhile, Kamen Rider No. 2's alter-ego, Hayato Ichimonji was also born on the date of 10/10. Kamen Rider No. 2 first appeared in the original 1971-1973 Kamen Rider TV show, created by manga genius Shotaro Ishinomori. As the second transforming superhero in the long running Kamen Rider series, Hayato helped to kick off a entertainment franchise that's still running strong today via popular sequels like Kamen Rider Fourze.

And while we thought that no one would be nerdy enough to actually make a Kamen Rider No. 2 cake, it appears that Japan has risen to the challenge...

How can we confirm the birthdays of characters who don't even exist? Well, we have this image found on the Intertrons by Gaijinder, AKA Mike Dent of Friday Ace fame...

And yes, sigh, today is also the birthday of Nagisa Misumi, "Cure Black" from Pretty Cure...by now we're convinced that the sheer amount of birthdays on 10/10 must be some kind of in-joke or conspiracy on the part of creators in Japan, but what do you think?!?!
