NYAF: Viz Launching Weekly Shonen Jump Digital Anthology

Manga chapters to be posted two weeks after Japanese debut

Viz Media is working on cutting down the time between its manga's North American debut with Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, a digital manga anthology announced today at New York Comic Con. Each issue will feature chapters of Bakuman, Bleach, Naruto, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, One Piece and Toriko, just two weeks after their Japanese debut.

The anthology is set to launch on January 30, 2012, and annual Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha memberships—netting you 48 weekly issues—will cost $25.99. It will be available on VizManga.com, as well as the Viz Manga apps for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The print edition of Viz Media's Shonen Jump will end its publishing run after Weekly Shonen Alpha launches. There will be a "farewell April 2012 issue." of the magazine next March.

Finally, there's Shonen Jump Digital Warp, which is an accelerated digital release of certain Viz manga titles with the purpose of bridging the gap between the Japanese releases. Digital Warp, for instance, is starting from Naruto volume 53, so get ready to play catch up on some of your favorite titles in English.
