The Origin of Yoko Kanno's "Gabriela Robin" Alter Ego?

Kanno Fleshes Out Back Story of Vocalist Collaborator

In recent interviews and performances, Cowboy Bebop composer Yoko Kanno has given up on the pretext that vocalist Gabriela Robin is a separate person. In 2009, she sung Robin's part of Turn A Gundam's "Moon" in concert. Now, a new interview is hinting at the pseudonym's origin.

A Gabriela Robin Fan Site notes during a CPRA (Center for Performers’ Rights Administration) interview, Kanno addresses the topic of her vocal interest with an anecdote about her first orchestral recording taking place in Israel (for Macross Plus). During that time, the Prime Minister of Israel was Yitzhak Rabin, pointing toward inspiration for the name.
