No Anime Submitted For Animated Feature Oscar

See The 18 Movies That Were Submitted

Spirited Away won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Awards. Last year, Summer Wars fought for a nomination slot and may have gotten one if there had been enough qualifying movies for the Academy to apportion a five film field instead of three. This year, not a single anime movie was submitted for consideration.

The 18 submitted features are:

• The Adventures of Tintin
• Alois Nebel
• Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
• Arthur Christmas
• Cars 2
• A Cat in Paris
• Chico & Rita
• Gnomeo & Juliet
• Happy Feet Two
• Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil
• Kung Fu Panda 2
• Mars Needs Moms
• Puss in Boots
• Rango
• Rio
• The Smurfs
• Winnie the Pooh
• Wrinkles

From this list, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will rule which are eligible, then select a list of nominees.

The award is given only if there are at least eight animated feature films (with a theatrical release in Los Angeles). For the purposes of the award, only films over 40 minutes long are considered to be feature films. If there are 16 or more films submitted for the category, the winner is voted from a shortlist of five films, otherwise there will only be three films on the shortlist.
