Japanese DVD Release of Osamu Dezaki's Posthumous "Black Jack" OVA Scheduled

"Black Jack FINAL" To Be Released on December 16th

In April 2011, anime lost the great director Osamu Dezaki to lung cancer. After work such as directing episodes of Astro Boy, he left Osamu Tezuka's Mushi Pro to become one of the founders of Madhouse (Ninja Scroll, Paprika, Black Lagoon) and during the course of the 70s, he helmed a number of classics, such as Ashita no Joe, Aim for the Ace! and The Rose of Versailles, which would become quintessential templates for their genres.

A work with which he was identified, and which showcased his directorial flourishes, was the anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's medical thriller Black Jack. Following his death, an 11th episode of his 1993-2000 Black Jack OVA series was completed in his honor, with Dezaki receiving Director Emeritus and Series Supervisor credits. Now, Black Jack FINAL has been scheduled for a December 16th release.
