This is a follow-up article for the post on April 16, 2011. Today, on November 7, the Tachikawa branch of Tokyo District Court handed down a sentence of 12 months' imprisonment suspended for three years to a 46-year-old unemployed man from Ikeda-cho, Nagano, who posted the third episode of the OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn on a popular video sharing website Nico Nico Douga without the copyright holders' permissions. The demanded prosecution was also 12 months in prison.
The suspect was arrested by Tachikawa station of Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on August 23, 2011. He uploaded the third episode of Gundam Unicorn on Nico Nico Douga from his own PC at home twice on March 7 and 8. The judge Harumitsu Mouri pointed out, "It was a rash act. The suspect had no respect for the rules, and the damages through copyright infringement
was crucial. However, he had made no profits from it and showed his regret over his errors."
What do you think? Does he deserve to be sentenced 12-month imprisonment?
