Seven girls from the all-singing, all-dancing J-Pop sensation known as AKB48 will soon be adding the job description of “monster wrecking crew” to their resumes. Sayaka Akimoto, Ayaka Umeda, Sae Miyazawa, Yuka Masuda, Kana Kobayashi, Sumire Satou and Haruka Shimada (below) have all signed on to appear in the upcoming Ultraman Saga theatrical film.
The ladies will appear in as “Team U”, the first all-female Earth Defense Force in Ultraman franchise history. Safe to assume that they will try in vain to defeat assorted giant monsters with high tech weaponry before giant heroes Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Zero, and Ultraman Cosmos arrive to save the day.

Sayaka Akimoto (above in costume) says of the project, "The ability cheer up fans is a point that both AKB48 and Ultraman share. I think our mission is to give people courage after the earthquake." Sae Miyazawa was a little more confused and confessed, “At first I thought maybe I would be playing Ultraman?!”
Either way, fans can look forward to the girls performing their own Ultra stunts in the film when Ultraman Saga opens in Japan on March 24.
