"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" Receives Perfect Score from Famitsu

Bethesda RPG earns a spot on the short list of games to receive 40/40 from Famitsu

Most times, a game earns a 40/40 in Famitsu and goes largly unnoticed in the West.  Other times, a game gets that rare and prestigious perfect score and everybody's playing it for years and years.

Add The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to that list, as the Bethesda dragon- and mastodon-slaying RPG wowed Famitsu's review panel and became the first Western game ever to earn a perfect score, joining a short list of admittedly excellent games to also get that rare 40/40.  Here's the complete list:

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (Nintendo64)

SoulCalibur (Dreamcast)

Vagrant Story (PS1)

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube)

Nintendogs (DS)

Final Fantasy XII (PS2)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

428: Fusa Sareta Shibuya de (Wii)

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)

Monster Hunter Tri (Wii)

Bayonetta (Xbox 360)

New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)

Pokemon: Black and Pokemon: White (DS)

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3)

There's a much longer list of games that receive a near-perfect 39/40 here on Wikipedia.

While there are a few games on that list that I wouldn't give a perfect score, like Metal Gear Solid 4, the well-rounded approach to reviewing and an emphasis on innovation and smart design make me trust Famitsu's reviews.  What do you think?  Does Skyrim deserve a perfect score?  Is it so far the best game of the year?
