Jaw Dropping Martial Arts Movie "The Raid" Finds American Distributor

Sony Pictures Classics Plans Spring 2012 Release

In 2009, Gareth Evans got the attention of martial arts movie fans with his Silat based Indonesian "next Ong Bak" Merantau. This year, he put action movie watchers' heads on a swivel again, with the extreme, gun play-heavy The Raid. Sony Pictures Classics took note and just licensed the Toronto Film Festival Midnight Madness Award winner.

Deadline reports that while remake rights were acquired, a theatrical release of the original is being planned for spring 2012.

It is also rumored to be en route to the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, by which time it will have a new soundtrack from Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, with Joseph Trapanese.
