"Super Hero Taisen" Literally Brings Together an Army of Rangers and Riders

Over 200 tokusatsu heroes, including 40 Kamen Riders, team up for 2012 film

One superhero on his or her own is pretty cool, a simple team-up between two heroes even more so.  But when you get a whole team of different superheroes working together?  Maybe it's time to put those world-conquering plans on hold.

 

Not to be outdone by the excitement for The Avengers, Japan's superheroes will also get their own huge crossover in 2012 in the tentatively-titled Super Hero Taisen.  The film's creators aren't settling for just a few big faces meeting up and stomping some bad guys, either: 200 super sentai (the myriad teams making up the international Power Rangers franchise) and all 40 incarnations of Kamen Rider will feature, with Kamen Rider Decade and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger taking the lead.

This means the return of the five original-in-the-US Power Rangers (Kyouryu Sentai Zyuranger), the Turbo (Gekisou Sentai CarRanger) and Zeo (Chouriki Sentai Ou-Ranger) Rangers, and more!  No confirmation yet of Rurouni Kenshin's Takeru Sato (Kamen Rider Den-O), but producer Shirakura stated "We want to show things you can't see in the regular shows.  This was pretty close to impossible but I'd like to make it the norm for our spring films.  Rider is science, sentai is magic."

 

Super Hero Taisen is set for a May 2012 release.  I don't think my brain could have handled something like this as a kid, so I'm glad it's coming out now.  What about you?  Any tokusatsu/super sentai fans ready to get their minds absolutely blown?

1st question: what possible enemy do they have that would require them to team up?
2nd Question: how many cities will be leveled because of this?

1. Probably a ton of enemies to match a ton of heroes. That's my guess.

ive seen massive power ranger cross overs before but not on this scale
i remember when they did the 7 red ranger dragon crossover a few years ago it was pretty good

The base idea sounds awesome, but I don't particularly expect it to be awesome. It'll definitely be some intense hard choreography (I think), but hardly anyone's getting a spotlight so it'll be a mess of throwing punches and kicks. Plus I personally feel Kamen Riders are cooler, as there's more versatility in how they're presented whereas Super Sentai seem to strictly be in teams and seem to do more dancing (at least in my head).

Riders and Sentai under one film, it's a toku otakus dream come, it'll be epic beyond what we seen so far. hell we all seen trailers for Gokaigers Vs. Gavan, I wouldn't mind seeing Kamen Rider Vs. Metal Heroes movie then Sentai Vs. Riders Vs. Metal Heroes if Toei gets around to it in the near future

OMG i'm 11 amd the amazing original Power Rangers came out when i was 5 i saw every episode of it i so want the original to come back on and i still want to play a power ranger in a movie

That may very well be the cause for the world's destruction. Bad guys win, Super Heroes take out the big bad in the void of space and use their combined powers to restore the planet. I mean, they have Kamen Rider Den-O! HE DEFIES ALL LOGIC!

I recently watched the "OOO - Den-O - All-Rider Movie Taisen" where ALL the Riders from the First aka Ichigou to the current *at the time OOO* showed up. Hell, they even had the toku-series of Android Kikaider, Inazuman and Zubatto show up. And with "Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger VS Space Sheriff Gavan" coming soon, it's going to be the year of the Cross-overs. Still can't wait for Kamen Rider Fourze movie to be subbed so I can watch it. Hell, if Crunchyroll could pick up Precure, Sentai and Rider, then they'd have 3/4 of Japan's Sunday morning fun. SUUUUUPAAAAAAA HIIIIIIRO TAIMU!

i only wish Tommy Oliver was in this show, cuz he a boss of veteran Power Ranger and also he been all in season on Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Turbo, and Dino Thunder.

As cool as this seems, I think it would be too confusing! How would everyone get enough screen time? And the fight scenes would be like total chaos! Still, it would be interesting to see :)

For the record, there are less than 40 incarnations of Kamen Rider. In reality Kamen Rider has been around for 40 years, however the series has been on hiatus a couple times prior to the 2000 revival of the series. In reality there are around 26 Kamen Rider series (Four of them were only movies, not counting the two remake movies for the original and V3).

Now the question is, is this going to be canon to both shows due to Sentai's movies being considered canon to the main series.

First we had an all Rider movie for OOO and the 199 hero movie for Gokaiger, and now we have something even greater. 2012 is going to be another great year for Sentai and Kamen Rider.

The "Lets Go Kamen Rider" movie that came out this year was obviously not canon to the OOO television series, but who knows... This giant cross-over movie might surprise us.
