VIDEO: Star Trek Actor George Takei Criticizes Live-Action Akira Film

"Why spend so much money on buying the rights of the film if they are just going to change everything?"

As far back as last April, George Takei, best known for playing Star Trek's Sulu, has been critical of the casting of non-Asian leads to the live-action Akira remake. Reacting to talk at the time that Robert Pattinson and Justin Timberlake would be the then Albert Hughes-directed project, he tweeted "Akira epic fail--all actors up for Kaneda & Tetsuo are white?" Later revisions that saw Jaume Collet-Sera take over as director and Garret Hedlund signed for the Kaneda role haven't made him any happier.
