2011 is shaping up to be the year of the video game site hack after the latest hacking attempt has now hit Square Enix and its Members online service.
According to a lengthy statement that is being used as the placeholder for the site, Square Enix discovered multiple instances of unauthorized access to a server used in the Members service this past December 12th. The decision was then made to pull the site to conduct an investigation regarding the extent of the breach.
In the latest update posted today, Square Enix has confirmed that no sensitive personal information was affected, nor was any credit card information stored on the server that was breached, and is taking steps to fully investigate the cause and consequences, as well as sending users an email explaining the situation. This latest breach has also been reported to the Japanese government, reinforcing the potential severity of the situation in the wake of Sony's own situation earlier this year, with the site remaining offline over the next few days while the investigation is completed.
Any readers use Square Enix's Members service? How do you feel about this latest hacking attempt?
