I can't honestly say that I was dissatisfied with the ending of the Rurouni Kenshin manga. We got a jaw-dropping fight between Kenshin and a dark figure from his past, everybody else got one last chance to shine, and we even got closure for a lot of the series' hanging plot threads. But I still wanted more, and many fans have voiced similar opinions in the twelve years since Rurouni Kenshin ended in Weekly Shounen Jump.
A recent announcement shows that the manga will be returning, with writing and art handled by original series creator Nobuhiro Watsuki. Watsuki will be putting his current series, Embalming - The Another Tale of Frankenstein, on hold as Rurouni Kenshin will get a brief run in Jump SQ alongside Claymore, D.Gray-Man, and Blue Exorcist starting in May of 2012.
Even with an awesome-looking live-action movie and a slick OAV retelling of the series' epic Kyoto Arc, this is the news that probably has me the most excited. Then again, I might also have a bad taste in my mouth from the TV series' ending and the Reflections OAV and I'm just looking forward to more Watsuki-penned stories. What about you?
