"Shenmue World" Social Game Dies After One Year

Sunsoft released Mobage title in Japan in December 2010

We may not have ever had the chance to experience Shenmue World (Shenmue Gai)—released for the Mobage social gaming platform in Japan—but it's still sad to hear word of it coming to a close. After one year of service, developer Ysnet's official site posted a note thanking players and notifying them that the service would be ending.

Sunsoft released Shenmue World in December 2010, and it was also announced for the Yahoo Mobage service. Unfortunately, that version—which would have allowed play via PC browsers—never ended up coming out.

It's been a tough road over the years for fans of Yu Suzuki's Shenmue series, which started as a Dreamcast title originally released in Japan in 1999. Despite the cancellation of this social game, one can still wistfully dream about continuing Ryo Hazuki's journey… some day.
