I'd take Future Trunks over his father any day. Spike, Vash, Haru Sohma and Ayame Sohma (for giggles), Kamina from Gurren Lagaan, Natsu, Happy and Grey from Fairy Tail, Siegfried and the masters from Kenichi, Urahara from Bleach (with all his gadgets), Tamaki from Ouran, Keroberos, from Cardcaptor Sakura, Kerororo, and he's not anime, but Barret from Final Fantasy. We'd all spend the day at the mall and see how long the mall security can stand us.
Out of these: Urahara and Future Trunks are the dream boats, but the rest are those I'd probably have the most fun hanging around.

Kazehaya and Zoro are the only ones I truly agree with. Everyone else either I don't recognize or should stay fictional. I thought the list was mostly for personality, then I got to Sebastian.
As for my list, in no particular order;

2) Ryuugamine Mikado (Durarara) - He's a little on the timid side, but he can take care of business when need be.
3) Masamune Asuka (Otomen) - Sweet and effeminate, he makes a great friend. Also captain of the kendo team and very strong.
5) Kotetsu T. Kaburagi (Tiger & Bunny) - Funny and kindhearted. He's a good father and looks out for others.

I think a type that would be super protective in real life can turn stalker-ish. Two characters that I think could make that real life jump would be Renji from Bleach and Harada from Hakuouki. Both have the protective nature, but also can be humorous and chill when need be. While 'at it let's throw in Nyanko-sensei as I'd always love to have sake with a talking cat.
It's not anime, but I would love my very own Densha Otoko. So sweet, a bit awkward but you gotta believe someone like that would go to the ends of the earth for you. And as an Ota-chick myself I'm sure he'd welcome being himself around me and not having to change for me. I prefer the character from the TV series over the movie version. I don't know if I could handle his two buddies but he'd be just great.

I'd pick Ichigo Kurosaki, Naruto Uzumaki and Rikou Nura because they put their lives on the line for friends and family. Would love to be a friend or family.
I'd say the same for Vash the Stampede and Abel Nightroad, but they seem to fit in another category, since they will put their lives on the line for pretty much anybody.
Also, any of the guys from Noblesse, again for their strong loyal streaks.

I'd add Zero (Vamp Knight), Renji (Bleach), Ichigo (Bleach), Byakuya (Bleach), Kakashi (Naruto, NS), the girl's father from Clannad - can't remember their names, Abel Nightroad (Trinity Blood), Vash (Trigun), etc. Spike's never been my speed, but he's better than that list.
