YAY!!!!!!!!!! I love seychelles too! I wish they would make it for USA!!!!!!!!!
=_= uggghhhhh i want this noooowwwwww
=_= I hate this franchise so much. Not a SINGLE damn person of color of any sort. And all the "European" people are blonde and light eyed. To say that it's easier to recognize them as different this way is LAZY. If you made a brown haired Germany and told me he was Germany, I'd believe he was Germany... No Africa, no Brazil, no India, no brown people... :[ How is this show so popular?
There are a small number of darker skinned characters in the original webcomic/blog posts that inspired the show. Egypt, Seychelles, Cuba, Turkey to name... all of them, I think. I'm not defending the snow because those aforementioned nations are my favorite and they get very little/no attention in the animation.
Well, this anime is based around countries involved in WWII, so I think because those countries were not too involved they are barely mentioned. And one of the reasons it is so popular with female fans is the yoai undertones. But still.....WHERE THE HELL IS MEXICO?!?!
Hetalia is primarily based around World War II. Hence "Axis Powers" in the title for the first season. The reason for all the blonde, light eyed European characters is because it's a common perception in Japan (and many other countries as well). One of the points in the show is to use stereotypes for parody, such as Italy loving pasta, America is loud and annoying, Japan has a small *ahem*. It's simply following that guideline. There are a few darker toned characters, but because countries with darker toned citizens were either little or not involved at all in WWII, they aren't included. The writer isn't prejudice racist by leaving them out. It's just how history went. :)
D: I WANT THIS NOOOOOW!
