French Book Swipes Illustration of Fate/Zero's Saber

French guide to Japanese conversation features a familiar looking blond

Eagle eyed Japanese bloggers have recently picked up on the fact that a French guide to Japanese conversation featured a girl in a gown that looked a whole lot like the Fate series' Saber. Commenters took the indictment a step further by tracking down the illustration that inspired la jeune fille dans la robe rose.

 

What do you guys think? Blatant swipe or just "homage"?

Unless they gave credit somewhere it is a blatant swipe. If it wasn't so similar you might think otherwise but they are just too similar.

Seems more like swipe by tracing it.

Person I like some french anime too. (especially code: lyoko) There animations not be as good as some animes, but the story content is good.

Even if its just a "homage," I still have the feeling that it might violate copyright.

Someone is going to be fired over this.

Also why do I feel someone is going to buy a bunch of copies and try to resell them to Otaku at x10 the cover price. And why do I have the feeling that they might actually sell.

The French used a Japanese drawing of an English woman. Granted, it is difficult to tell a persons ethnicity in anime, but I find this highly amusing.

I don't know if Type-Moon would bother suing the company that made this French to Japanese book but it is almost certainly an example of plagiarism.
