Square-Enix has needed to clear up some confusion regarding its announcement of Final Fantasy X HD. Mainly, it's regarding what the game is--for starters, it's not a remake.
A "remake" is when you take an original title and completely rebuild it with a new engine, like how Metal Gear Solid (PS1) was remade into Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube).

"The game is being developed like a high-definition remaster, but the visuals will look much better compared to the original," Square-Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto explained at the Taipei Game Show. HD remasters tend to look almost identical to the originals, but smaller details are picked up in HD resolutions that clear out the blur of a standard-definition image.
