VIDEO: Japanese Robot Makes "Avatar" a Reality

Telesar V allows human beings to switch bodies

Today’s ten dollar word is “teleexistence”, a process by which human beings can upload their consciousness into another body. Sounds a lot like the crazy plot of James Cameron's Avatar, but mad robot geniuses from Japan’s Keio University are well underway to making this SF concept a reality. Check out the frankly amazing demo video of Telesar V below!

Here's a diagram that lays bare how the darned thing works:

Personally, I'd like to use this tech to remotely steal people's hamburgers without getting caught, but maybe you have a more practical application in mind?

And then Skynet takes over, judgment day comes ,they make countries nuke each other and the robots we created for a better life end up fighting against us.. I SEE EVERYTHING O.O
Skynet blocked the video
Seriously they post this after i have a new guy starts working at my work place and his name is John Conner... no joke *sigh*
tell him to be ready for the Rise of the machines
seriously awesome...
When I first read the headline, I thought it meant it would give you mastery over fire, water, earth, and air.
Ok its all good you can make robots but when is this gonna be utilised in video games? .hack? The World? Anyone?
video game hell yea but hack? hacks is what i fear people will do with it
I believe is referring to the .hack series. You know, the .hack anime series, video games, books and whatnot. Great series and I would love to see The World as a game in real life. Without the life-threatening danger of course.
I go for it, but only if the world was something other than high fantasy. The FallOut(tm) wasteland might be cool.
That all sounds cool and interesting but after reading a bit of the Sword Art Online light novel, now it doesn't sound all that good...
with my mastery of golang i'll rule skynet with an iron fist!
A more practical application? how about strangling my wife?
Love it!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm pretty cool, although I'd rather see more of those robotic cat ears. x3
This isn't Skynet, the article I saw a week ago in paper about US autonomous military drones is. Potential armed drones that run without a human pilot?
Got it in one. This, this more of the many first steps towards 'The Matrix' or 'Ghost in the Shell'

Autonomous drones and strategic supercomputers are skynet... though I guess 'The Matrix' was what if sky net won and put everyone into 'The world' to charge his batteries.
Made me think of this:

lol skynet
Looks like the back ground for the "Surrogates". They started out for work use in dangerous areas.
I agree, this is more like Surrogates than Avatar.
... Rather than Avater, its more like from Toriko and their GT Robots!! :P
uhh meant Avatar*
live and learn good for them.
THIS CREEPS ME OUT!! D:
Yeah, I've been saying Skynet is the end of us all....some company in Silicon Valley already developed a robot AI that has access to the internet and can download maps and all this other junk, and each one can share what it learns and does with the other robots....dum dum dum...Soon as I meet a John Connor its over.
orgins to a new era where ghost in the shell becomes reality
j3wj17su, that was a very disturbing comment.
Wow that's pretty amazing. :)
I thought they were saying you'd be able to upload yourself into a computer brain in the near future. Ah well, this is cool too.
This could be the turning point for mecha-geeks. Just imagine the first retaliation to some bullying with a retaliatory "robo-wedgie" lol

Break out your Amored Core games and start practicing!
That is really amazing. Just think what 10 more years will bring.
WOOOOOW. That's really cool. I hope this kind of technology becomes useful in the near future
I say go for it!
I was just thinking they could have used something like this last year during the Nuclear disaster at Fukushima instead of having all those live humans working in that plant with all that radiation.
we are crossing into scfi
The future is about to change O.O
Its an interesting concept and would be usefully for those dangerous jobs at nuclear plants and such but i don't think it would be ready for actual use anytime soon until they get a proper working network systems so they won't get hacked and blow up the world.
personally im looking forward to our robot overlords
Oh great... now everybody will be obese! Id prob just use it to play a quick game.... rather use my real body for everything else >.>
oh really?? to bad Japanese people themselves are one of the healthiest nations in the world. Now if this comes state side... nope
You guys, Judgement Day has already occured and no robot appocalypse occured... so we are safe.
