"Whisper of the Heart" Ghibli Film Station Gets Train Arrival Melody

"Country Road" jingle to play starting April 8th

Keio announced that the station that served as the model for the one in Studio Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart will be getting the movie's theme song "Country Road" as an arrival melody. The jingle will play at Seiseki-sakuragaoka starting with the first train on April 8th.

The song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" was originally recorded by John Denver, but Olivia Newton-John's version was the one used in the movie. One of the characters likes it so much that she translates the lyrics into Japanese.

The arrival melody is part of Tama [city]'s larger strategy to boost tourism based on the amount of Whisper of the Heart fans they have already seen making pilgrimages to the area to look for scenery from the film. The movie is a cute romance involving library books and cats, released in 1995 as Mimi wo Sumaseba in Japan. It was directed by Yoshifumi Kondō.

Here's a video that includes the song from the movie, created by a fan who made the kind of site-seeing trip Tama would like to see more of:
