Michael Bay, of live-action Transformers fame, heads production house Platinum Dunes—which specializes in remakes, such as the recent Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. For Christmas 2013, they will be working with Nickelodeon Movies on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, and Bay's studio has some controversial ideas on how to handle the Turtles.
Speaking at Nickelodeon's "upfront" presentation on coming plans, Bay told the media industry, "when you see this movie, kids are going to believe one day these Turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable."
True to the alien origin, the movie's working title is the simplified Ninja Turtles.
Jonathan Liebesman, director behind spectacles Battle: Los Angeles and upcoming Clash of the Titans sequel Wrath of the Titans, as well as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, is in talks to direct.
