Once upon a time, Disney films and characters made some truly graceful transitions to the world of games, giving birth to many classic 2D platformers. From Capcom's unforgettable run with games like DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers on NES, to Sega-developed games such as Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, these were quality licensed titles, and it looks like Epic Mickey 2's Nintendo 3DS spin-off is taking all the right cues from the latter.
Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion is following up the original Epic Mickey alongside the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. While the console game will be a 3D platformer like its predecessor, Power of Illusion is something even more special. It continues the Illusion series of games, which includes the aforementioned Castle of Illusion, as well as World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse.

Power of Illusion is being developed by DreamRift—the crew behind Henry Hatsworth and Monster Tale—and will be a 2D side-scroller with hand-drawn sprites and extensive parallax (multiple levels of scrolling backgrounds). Mickey will run through worlds across Disney's rich film history, from Peter Pan to Tangled, and rescued characters will take residence in Mickey's home base.
I wasn't a big fan of Epic Mickey, but this sounds like exactly what I want out of a Disney platformer. Anyone else excited about this or the console sequel to Epic Mickey?
