Life-sized "Macross" Valkyrie Unveiled in Tokyo

Protoculture not included...

The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Macross anime franchise continues apace! Even before the buzz surrounding a Macross-themed exhibition in the Shibuya ward has died down, Ikebukuro’s Shunshine City shopping complex has unveiled a Macross celebration of their own the centerpiece of which is a 1/1 scale (18 meter long) mockup of the famed transforming VF-25F Messiah Valkyrie fighter jet.

While the 30th Anniversary Macross Super Dimension Exhibition - Valkyrie de Sasotte! attraction formally openes later today in Japan (and runs until May 6), advance pictures have appeared are starting to pop up. Here's a selection of photos from MANTANWEB.

You can imagine how much fun it must be to stand around like this all day, making "vroom vroom!" noises.

Personally, we are digging the Japanese trend of making life-sized versions of anime icons (the 1/1 scale Gundam and the bike from AKIRA for example). Below is another one from the Macross exhibit I'm glad has not been overlooked!
