VIDEO: EVO Championship Series Fighting Game Tournament Finals

Results and finals highlights from one of the year's biggest international competitive gaming events

Fighting games are fun to play on your own, but the real thrill comes from competition, from putting all that you've learned to the test and seeing where you stand. There's a reason we pumped hundreds of dollars worth of quarters into arcades every month, and even though I may spend less money on fighting games now than I did before (even counting DLC!) I still spend just as much time playing them.

The best fighting game players from around the world gather in Las Vegas every year at the EVO Championship Series, battling it out for the top spot in a variety of games. We showed the lineup a while back, but with the competition having ended Sunday night, the results are in and there are plenty of amazing highlights from the tournament.

SoulCalibur V Grand Finals: Shining Decopon (Tira) vs. Shen Chan (Cervantes)

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Side Tournament Finals: RZR|Fuudo (Shun Di) vs. Shironuko (El Blaze)

Just a note: IGN mixed up the names on this. Fuudo and his terrifying Shun are on the left.

Street Fighter X Tekken Grand Finals: EG Ricky Ortiz/PR Balrog (Ryu/Rufus) vs. WW.MCZ Infiltration/Laugh (Ryu/Rolento)

Mortal Kombat 9 Grand Finals: KN EMP Perfect Legend (Kung Lao) vs. vVv NOS CD JR (Rain, Kabal)

The King of Fighters XIII Grand Finals: MadKOF (Duo Lon/Chin/Kim) vs. Bala (Benimaru/Shen Woo/Takuma)

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Grand Finals: col.CC|Filipino Champ (Magneto/Dormammu/Doctor Doom) vs. LXG|Infrit (Spencer/Nova/Sentinel)

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition ver. 2012 Grand Finals: WW|Infiltration (Akuma) vs. AVM|GamerBee (Adon)

My favorite event had to be King of Fighters XIII, with an awesome performance from MadKOF toppling Bala, but what about you? There were plenty of other matches besides the finals--for those of you watching, which was your favorite? What other competitive gaming events do you think we should cover?
