Japanese Mobile Game Company GREE Opening Vancouver Development Studio

Free-to-play mobile game company opens North American dev shop

Japanese social mobile gaming giant GREE will expand development operations to North America with a new shop in Vancouver. Just about any Japanese pop media property you can think has probably been adapted into a social mobile game by GREE or Mobage. GREE's include the upcoming Naruto and Bleach, AKB48, Ikki Tousen and plenty more.

GREE International VP of consumer operations Steve Lin has been promoted to run the studio. Lin told Hollywood Reporter, "the creative community in Vancouver has made tremendous contributions to the mobile and video game industry and we are looking forward to tapping into that talent pool and building a team of passionate innovators."

There's no word on what this means for GREE's plans to release more of its free-to-play games in North America.
