VIDEO: "Detective Conan" Special Highlights Phantom Thief Kaitō Kid

First installment of summer special airs on August 4 in Japan

Pint-sized, tragically transformed sleuth Detective Conan has a series of summer specials due out this August, putting the spotlight on his rival, the phantom thief Kaitō Kid. Thanks to Shogakukan's Club Sunday website, you can check out the first three minutes of "Magic Kaito ~Karei Naru Rival-Tachi~" (Magnificent Rivals) below.

Gosho Aoyama's Magic Kaito manga, which debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1987, has occasionally invaded his Detective Conan series over the years. Kaito is currently collected in four tankōbon.

The summer special installment previewed above is set to air in Japan on August 4, and is the first of four. Next up is "Magic Kaito ~Red Tear no Himitsu~" (Red Tear Secret) on August 11, followed by the "Kaito Kid no Yon Meiga" (Kaitō Kid's Four Masterpiece Paintings) two-parter on August 18 and 25.
