"The Flowers of Evil" to be Adapted into Anime

Project based on Shuzo Oshimi's twisted love story manga green-lit

Shuzo Oshimi's The Flowers of Evil is a story of love, blackmail, and one twisted girl who spins both together like a spider's web. Vertical Inc. publishes the manga in North America, and now an anime adaptation has been green-lit.

At this time, all that's known about the project is that Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, Detroit Metal City) is attached to direct.

The story follows Takao Kasuga, a student who spends his days in class sucked into the worlds of books no one else knows or cares about, like Charles Baudelaire's The Flowers of Evil. The rest of his time is spent pining over his crush, Nanako Saeki. Things get complicated when he finds and takes her gym clothes in an impulsive after-school moment, landing him in the blackmailing crosshairs of resident class misanthrope, Sawa Nakamura. In exchange for keeping his secret, she may end up making his life a living hell.
