Following our last two looks at the long anticipated Neo-Geo portable console, the final word on availability and pricing has been given by long time wholesaler and video game distributor Tommo Inc. which is a very familiar name if you grew up during the heyday of video game magazines in the 90's, as they were one of the few mail-order companies that specialized in sales of Neo-Geo consoles.
The Neo Geo X will launch on December 6th with worldwide availability. The "Neo-Geo X Gold" package shown above will consist of the Neo-Geo X portable console along with a dock shaped just like the old home console version that provides video output functionality to TVs, and to round out the retro vibe of the console, will also include a smaller version of the familiar Neo Geo arcade stick controller.
Pricing for the complete package is set at 199.99, which means that it competes directly with the 3DS and the Vita and runs the risk of only appealing to hardcore collectors, rather than the original perception of offering cheap arcade fun on the go when the console first made itself known earlier this year.
Whatever the case may be, the $199.99 price is certainly better than the $599-$699 range for the original console and that was originally without a game included until SNK thought better of it and later included one or two pack-in games depending on the package purchased. The console will launch with the following games pre-loaded, but Tommo has so far not commented on how additional games will be made available for the console:
Now that we know price and availability for this thing, is anyone here interested in buying one, or am I the only one that made this a day 1 purchase?
